In this unit, you will develop your understanding of and skills in preproduction. The unit covers planning and resourcing

requirements for production and post-production, locating resources and how to organise their deployment. You will also

develop your understanding of health, safety and legal issues in relation to pre-production and final exhibition.

You are planning to create and curate a solo exhibition of your photographic portfolio. You have been experimenting with

your photography practice through the concept of “Hidden Worlds: A New Way of Looking at Things"; and intend to create,

edit, organize and curate your collection for exhibition in a specific space. As such, you will need to provide full

documentation of your planned exhibition in this space (a commercial space), a complete set of planning documents for the

shooting and editing of your images, as well as printing and delivery of your prints to the designated location.

Unit Deadlines:  Task 1 (Research) MARCH 30 - Task 2 (Pre-Pro) APRIL 24 - Task 3 (Film) JUNE 5

Task 1 - Case Study Research

Use the criteria & content sheet (above) and the collaboration document (below) as a guide for your own research notes. Check the quality of your research notes with the questions below the collaboration document.

What am I looking for in your research notes:
YOUR OWN COMMENTS - personally engage with statistics and information you have found. Copying and pasting information will score you no marks. Critically comment on the things you have found - how does the information reveal aspects of the preproduction stages for your chosen case study.
INTERESTING INSIGHT - Don't be dull. Search far and wide for interesting information and have something interesting to say about it.
COMAPRISONS - You've chosen ONE example as your case study, but by no means should you limit yourself to this. Draw frequent comparisons to other examples - they may be genre-related, or share similar release dates, or have some other overlap like a shared contributor in the pre-production phrase, for example.
INTERESTING AND LOGICAL COVERAGE OF CONTENT ITEMS - There's a LOT of detail in the content sheets. As I mentioned often in my research guide above, I do not expect to see arbitrary coverage of the points for each section. I am much more interested in seeing how you select the most relevant items and go into depth with your research. Depth over breadth will get you higher marks. The more interesting and individual you can make your research, the more impressed I will be. Use the guide above and my comments as a springboard into research that you can be passionate about and that will be compelling to a reader, like me.
